The Ultimate MapleStory Cubing Calculator

Stop guessing and start planning. Our MapleStory Cubing Calculator provides an accurate estimate of the meso and cubes required to reach your desired potential tier. Select your server, item, and cube to get instant results based on community-tested probability rates. Make every meso count!

Need help with the rest of your progression? After locking in good potential, move on to Star Force enhancement, calculate weekly income using the Bossing Meso Calculator, and optimize funding via the Meso Farming Calculator.

Estimate Your Cubing Costs
What is Cubing in MapleStory?

Potential is one of MapleStory's most important progression systems. Every piece of equipment can have up to 3 lines of Potential, which provide additional stats to boost your character's power.

Potential comes in four tiers: Rare (white), Epic (blue), Unique (purple), and Legendary (orange). Higher tiers unlock more powerful stat lines.

Cubes are consumable items that reset your potential lines and have a chance to upgrade the tier. This system is essential for reaching end-game damage thresholds.

Your cubing strategy changes depending on the goal: tiering up to Legendary, rolling for specific lines, or creating a meso gear set. For example, you might push to Unique with Red Cubes then switch to Black Cubes to protect good lines while chasing Legendary. After achieving your target tier you should evaluate whether additional investment in potential or moving to Star Force will yield better marginal gains.

How to Use Our Calculator
  1. Select Your Server: Choose between Reboot (meso-based) or Regular (NX-based) servers
  2. Enter Item Level: Higher level items can roll better potential lines
  3. Set Current & Target Tiers: Define your starting point and goal
  4. Choose Cube Type: Red, Black, or Bonus Potential cubes have different costs
  5. Get Results: See average cubes needed and total meso cost instantly

During Double Miracle Time (DMT) your effective tier-up rates increase substantially; we will soon add a toggle to model DMT scenarios. Until then, you can approximate by mentally halving the expected cube counts when cubing during DMT windows.

Cubing Strategy - Red vs. Black Cubes

Red Cubes

  • Cheaper option for pure tier-up attempts
  • Best for items with no valuable lines
  • Ideal during Double Miracle Time events
  • Cannot choose between old and new potential

Black Cubes

  • More expensive but offers safety
  • Can choose between old and new potential
  • Perfect for protecting good existing lines
  • Essential for end-game optimization

Practical approach: Push with Red Cubes until you land one or two strong lines (e.g., %Main Stat + %Boss Damage), then pivot to Black Cubes to preserve progress while chasing remaining ideal lines like %IED or additional %Stat. If meso constrained, consider stopping at Unique on secondary or accessory slots and allocating funds to Star Force progression or weekly bossing efficiency improvements.

If your goal is a meso farming set, prioritize lines that directly increase drop and meso acquisition while keeping your main damage set separate. Use the Meso Farming Calculator to measure the return on investment of pushing an accessory from Epic to Unique vs. enhancing a weapon's Star Force level.

How Our Probability Model Works

Each tier-up attempt is modeled as an independent Bernoulli trial with a success probability equal to the community-accepted rank-up rate (e.g., Rare→Epic 5%). The expected (average) cubesrequired is the reciprocal 1/p. Because outcomes follow a geometric distribution, variance is high: some players tier in a handful of cubes; others can go several multiples of the average.

We compute the 50% (median) and 90% quantile using the cumulative distribution function: P(X ≤ n) = 1 − (1 − p)^n. Solving for n gives n = ln(1 − q) / ln(1 − p). Rounding up yields the cube counts displayed. This lets you budget conservatively—for example, preparing for the 90% scenario reduces the chance of running out mid-session.

Future enhancements will include: Double Miracle Time adjusted probabilities, multi-step progression (Rare→Legendary in one run), meso vs. NX cost modeling for Regular servers, and a comparison tool to evaluate whether continuing to cube or reallocating funds to bossing income generation provides better progression velocity.

Data sources: aggregated community spreadsheets, probability testing threads, and long-term sample logs. If rates are updated by Nexon or during events, we will revise formulas promptly.
